Adulting is bad for your health

So this happened on the way home yesterday. Neat, huh?

Fortunately, with great patience, crawling under the truck and banging on the tank, I was able to limp it back towards work a couple of miles before calling the tow. Seems the fuel pump in the main tank has died.

Then, because my other car is currently on loan to a very good client, I had to borrow a coworker’s extra car and rush to a meeting on connecting my house to an expensive (to property owners) new sewer that I’ll be paying a pantload on for 30 years and necessitates ripping up my entire front yard. Then two of my best friends, both utterly entrenched in their position, get in a political shitfight on group text that I end up trying to moderate. Then, when all I want to do is sit, eat dinner, and chill with my wife for a minute, our PS3 takes a dump. And the kitchen faucet leaks like hell. And my back fence is falling down after the storms. And the roof is near the end of its life, also having taken a beating in the storms. And the linoleum in the kitchen is failing. And our tax return wasn’t as good as hoped. And my last several checks have been weak because business drops off during tax season... and we need to re-enroll our oldest in pre$chool. And Covered CA has screwed up our insurance for the youngest. And my back has been hurting badly for a month. And I hate my job. And the truck needs tires. And I submitted a resume to a rather well known company about some potential track work, which I’m very anxious about. And the election, sweet shit the election... And and and... I guess I know what I’m doing for this and the next several weekends.

At least the kids slept ok last night, and things could always be worse (thoughts go out to Belgium). It’s just shit to fix, and only takes time and money, however little of each may be available. I’ll get to pedal my bike soon enough, and focus only on the trail ahead of me. Be thankful for what freedom you have, and make the most of small moments away from the trappings of adulthood.

I feel for you, my friend. But you have the right of it. It can all go to shit, but as long as we have family, and love, and safety for our children, we’ll get through. Good luck on that job. Things will sort out!

I know those feelings well. Except for the hate my job part (although it has it’s days), I’ve got more or less the same shit going on. It never freaking ends, but you’ve just gotta keep diggin’. I’ve done my best to stay out of the political shit, no good comes from that. Hugging my kids always helps me when I’m feeling overwhelmed. Good luck getting a new gig!

Thanks! It does help when the kiddos give me a hug at the end of the day. Tuesday was such a bummer because they were both asleep by the time I got home, so no hugs! I hope the new opportunity pans out, it’s not full time (fly-in work) but is highly motivational.

Me too, man. It’s a fly-in gig, so not full time, but for now I’ll just say it’s a great opportunity for my racing career. Hopefully I can share more here soon.

No hugs is a bummer. That’s one of the fortunate things about my job, and one of the reasons I like it, is there aren’t too many days that I miss bedtime. I HATE missing bedtime.

I’ll keep my figers crossed that you get the gig. It’d be working for Canepa, right? I remember you mentioning applying to work on his crew. That would be a super cool gig.

Most nights I make bedtime for both, I’m definitely thankful for that. I haven’t applied for Canepa yet, that’d be full time and require a move to an even more expensive place to live, though I think I’ll still apply because those cars are just too good. This is for another outfit with a long history in international motorsport, on a state of the art car.
